Intel DH61DL Desktop Board BIOS 0118 Description

Fixes:

- Fixed issue where system hangs during boot at POST code E6 when certain PCI recovery card is installed.

About This Release:

- ME Firmware: Ignition SKU 8.1.0.1248
- Integrated Graphics Option ROM: Build 2137 PC 14.34
- LAN Option ROM: Intel Boot Agent PXE GE v1.4.03 PXE 2.1 Build 091

Which file to choose:
- Recovery BIOS Update [BE0118.BIO]

- A .BIO file to be used for F7 BIOS Update method or a BIOS recovery process. In the unlikely event that a BIOS update is interrupted, it is possible the BIOS may be left in an unusable state. Use the recovery BIOS update to recover from this condition. It requires a USB flash device or CD.
- Iflash BIOS Update [BEH6110H.86A.0118.BI.ZIP] - A DOS-based utility to update the BIOS regardless of operating system. It requires a CD or a USB flash device.
- Express BIOS Updates: BEH6110H.86A.0118.EB.EXE - Self-extracting Windows-based update file, designed to be used on Windows systems. This method is the most commonly used.
- Express BIOS Updates: BEH6110H.86A.0118.EB.WINPE64.EXE – for WinPE - Self-extracting Windows-based update file, designed to be used with either Microsoft Windows PE.x64 or Microsoft Windows x64 operating systems.

Important Installation Notes:

- BIOS version 0099 added support for Microsoft Windows 8. Due to structural changes in version 0099, once a board has been converted to 0099 or later, it will no longer be possible to downgrade the BIOS to version 0048 or earlier. Attempting a BIOS downgrade to a previous version may fail – the board BIOS will remain at its current version.

If the computer's current BIOS version is 0048:

1. Check if the Intel Management Engine (Intel ME) Firmware is version 7 or 8.
- Press F2 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
- Go to the Main → System Identification Information screen
- The Intel ME version is listed here.
- Press F10 to exit BIOS Setup.

2. If the Intel ME version is 7.x, use the BE0048.BIO file to do a BIOS Recovery and then check the Intel ME Firmware version again to confirm that version 8.x has been installed.

3. Then update to version 0099 before updating to any later BIOS version, using one of these methods:
- Express BIOS Update
- F7 BIOS Flash Update
- iFlash Update

4. Update to any later than 0099 BIOS version. Using one of these methods:
- Express BIOS Update
- F7 BIOS Flash Update
- iFlash Update

If the computer's current BIOS version is earlier than 0048:

1. You must first update to version 0048, using one of these methods:
- Express Update
- iFlash Update

3. If the Intel ME version is 7.x, use the BE0048.BIO file to do a BIOS Recovery and then check the Intel ME Firmware version again to confirm that version 8.x has been installed.

4. Then you must then update to version 0099 before upgrading to any later BIOS, using one of these methods.
- Express BIOS Update
- F7 BIOS Flash Update
- iFlash Update

5. Update to any later than 0099 BIOS version. Using one of these methods.
- Express BIOS Update
- F7 BIOS Flash Update
- iFlash Update

There are no special steps required for updating from BIOS version later than 0099 to a more current BIOS version.

Important Notes:

- Update the BIOS on your computer only if the newer BIOS version specifically solves a problem you have. We do not recommend BIOS updates for computers that do not need it.
- Downgrading the BIOS to an earlier version is not recommended and may not be supported. An earlier BIOS version may not contain the support for the latest processors, bug fixes, critical security updates, or support the latest board revisions currently being manufactured.
- If a BIOS update process is interrupted, your computer may not function properly.
- Before updating the BIOS on the Intel Desktop Board, manually record all BIOS settings that have been changed (from default) so they can be restored after completing the BIOS update.

About OS Independent BIOS:

Although installing a newer BIOS version might add new features, update various components, or improve the device's usability, this process is very risky, so the upgrade is recommended to be performed only when it is really needed.

In addition to that, this task should be performed by someone who has the knowledge to successfully complete the installation; regular users may fulfill it at their own risk.

When it comes to applying a new version without taking into account the computer's operating system, the most commonly used method to flash the BIOS is by creating a bootable USB or CD containing the update file, and running it from DOS.

Still, regardless of the method used or whether the upgrade is performed by a regular or power user, it's recommended that the new BIOS be applied in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a very important software that loads the currently installed OS, and tests all of the system's hardware components – so make sure you flash it correctly.

Bear in mind that failing to perform a successful installation could seriously damage your device, and the faulty BIOS resulted from the process might even render it unusable.

So, if this release includes useful changes, hit the download button, get the package, and update your BIOS version. Otherwise, check with our website as often as possible, so that you don't miss the release that you need.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
