eMotimo Spectrum ST4 Motion Control Firmware B004 Description

Additions and Changes:

• Live Motion – Experimental - Separated Record and Playback Screens
Rec Screen – Options for Framerate capture of 24, 30, 60 fps
Rec Screen – increase max frames captured from 500 to 750
Rec Screen - Rec Time – shown for feedback (driven by Max Frames and FPS)
Rec Screen - RECORD will highlight and show frame updates while recording
Play Screen – PLAY will highlight while playing back and show frame progress
Play Screen – User selectable Framerate.
Play Screen - Shows playtime at current FPS
• Live Motion – Experimental - Addition of Live To Timelapse screen • Live Motion – Renamed Motor Modes to be more descriptive
• Live Motion - Software Stops Disabled – This will come back once we create a screen to set by axis (too difficult to set all axis at the same time for most users)
• Live Motion – Removed SQUARE Goto Frame to make room for consistent navigation using Square as back button (future functionality)
• Programmed Moves – Update Static time (stationary time / triggering time) to be a max of interval time minus 0.4 seconds. Static time should always be your camera exposure + 0.1 or 0.2 seconds, no more. If you are always maxing your static time, you are setting up your rig wrong.
• Programmed Moves - Updated SMS move profile to optimize move/accelerations between shots to accommodate larger rigs.
• Programmed Moves – Updated SMS Scrubbing of moves while paused to move immediately to current frame.
• Programmed Moves – Returns to start uses max speeds instead of hardcoded return to start times.
• Programmed Moves – Enabled the ability to fully program all axis without PS4 remote. When PS4 isn’t attached, the navigation switch on the side of spectrum will set Pan/Tilt in the first step and then M3/M4 in the seconds step.
• Programmed Moves – Enabled a bailout at final step (GO displayed) by pressing up
• Programmed Moves – SMS – Added easy bailout option when paused, by hitting square
• All Modes - Updated default profiles to hold pan motor axis with more torque by default
• All Modes - Removed Triangle for live switching of playback modes
• Settings – Added screen to change screen brightness
• Settings – Added screen to change motor basic properties (Normal, Reversed, Off, Hold) Known Issues / Behaviors
• Rec/Playback on new Experimental Rec/Play Screens cannot be interrupted once started.
• Pause for video shots will not resume. Either restart, or reverse or reset to continue.

Bug Fixes:

• Reverse after SMS was not calculating moves correctly.
• Errant runaway when switching motor modes while moving
• Fixed non-move issue when setting up a reverse move (setting end point first)
• Fixed issue where st4 could initiate a shot firing while the rig was still moving if the move was long.

Gather the following:

- The microSD card that came with you spectrum. Do not format or change this card. The default file system can be read and written to by mac or windows and should not be changed.
- A way to write to that card from your computer. This is a simple SD to microSD card adapter if your computer has an SD card slot, or a USB card reader with a microSD card slot. This is not included with your spectrum, but these are easy to pick up.
- Your ST4 with a power source.

Here is how you do it:

- Download the latest firmware zip
- Connect your microSD card to your computer.
- Extract the contents of the zip file to your microSD card's root (update folder should be at root)
- Eject the card from your computer.
- Insert the micro SD card to your ST4 (Tip: putting a tape tail on the card allows for easy removal)
- Power on the ST4 and WAIT for 30 seconds. Really wait, no screen comes on during the update process, but it will light back up when complete.
- Power down the ST4, take out the microSD card and put it back in the holder, for the next update.

About Device Firmware:

Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.

On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop. However, bear in mind that applying an older firmware isn’t recommended and might not always be possible.

When it comes to the update steps, due to the large variety of devices and numerous ways for installing a new firmware, it is recommended that you carefully read and understand the upgrade steps, and consider applying a different firmware only when you have familiarized yourself with the update method.

As the installation process is most of the times quite risky, this step should be taken by users that have the ability to successfully complete the update; regular users may initiate it at their own risk. Moreover, it’s best that this task be performed in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

Therefore, if you consider applying this release, hit the download button, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, and update the device’s firmware. Also make sure you constantly check with our website to ensure that you don’t miss a single new release.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
