Canon XC10 Camcorder Firmware 1.0.2.0 Description

Firmware Version 1.0.2.0 incorporates the following enhancements:

- Enables users to select an MP4 recording format for recording HD video.
- Increases the AF speed by a maximum of approximately two times.
- Adds an AF speed settings menu (Fast/Normal/Slow).
- Enhances the image quality in low brightness during HD shooting.
- Makes onscreen displays possible during HDMI output (for HD video only).
- Adds a shutter setting value (NTSC:1/25, 1/50; PAL:1/30) as a flicker reduction measure.

Caution:

- You cannot perform the firmware update using CFast 2.0 cards. Please use a commercially available SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card that is 64MB or more for the firmware update.
- Firmware Version 1.0.2.0 is for camcorders with Firmware Version 1.0.0.0 - 1.0.1.0. If your camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.2.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camera is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.
- All camcorder settings will be reset formatted when you perform the firmware update.
- It is not possible to revert the firmware back to a previous version after you have performed the firmware update.
- Please be absolutely sure NOT to operate the camcorder buttons or remove the camcorder’s power source during the firmware update. Doing so may cause the camcorder to malfunction.

Installation Procedure:

- Insert the SD card into the camcorder’s SD card slot, and close the card cover.
- After setting the movie/photo switch to Recorder, press the ON/OFF button to turn on the camcorder.
- After pressing the MENU button, touch [ Recording Setup] > [1] > [Initialize], and then touch [ SD Memory Card] > [Initialize] > [Complete Initialization].
- When you touch [Yes], complete initialization of the SD card will start. When the confirmation screen appears, touch [OK].
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the camcorder, and then remove the SD card.
- Insert the initialized SD card into a card reader or the computer’s SD card slot.
- Save and extract the downloadable archive, and copy the update data onto the memory card.
- After inserting the charged battery pack into the camcorder, connect the camcorder to the power outlet using the compact power adapter.
- Insert the SD card into the camcorder’s SD card slot.
- After setting the movie/photo switch to Recorder, press the ON/OFF button to turn on the camcorder.
- After pressing the MENU button, touch [ System Setup] > [4] > [Firmware]. The firmware update confirmation screen will be displayed.
- When you touch [OK], the firmware update will start.
- After the update ends, the camcorder will restart automatically, and a firmware update completion screen will be displayed.
- When you touch OK, all settings will be reset and the [Date/Time] screen will appear. Set the date/time.
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the camcorder, and then remove the SD card.

About Camcorder Firmware:

Upgrading your camcorder to a different firmware version should improve the device’s overall performance and stability, resolve various issues, and add support for newly developed features or enhance existing ones.

On the other hand, downgrading the camcorder’s firmware can recover its functionality in the unlikely event that the currently installed version is faulty or the device’s performance dropped after an upgrade. However, you should bear in mind that applying an earlier build might not always be possible.

It is recommended that changing the camcorder’s firmware be carefully performed by a power user, but the process can also be initiated by a regular user at his or her own risk. Whichever the case, this step should be taken only when absolutely necessary.

When it comes to updating the device, make sure that you have saved all your personal data and configurations before initiating the process, and that the battery is fully charged. You’re not to use the unit’s buttons while the installation is in progress either.

As for the update method, most of the times, you’re supposed to copy the firmware file onto a suitable memory card, insert it into the camcorder, and start the upgrade from the device’s update section menu.

Still, each device has specific steps for a successful upgrade and various ways to enter update mode, which means that, before you set off to work, you must carefully read and understand the product’s installation guide.

With this in mind, if you consider installing this firmware, click on the download button, get the desired version, and apply it to the device; if not, check with our website as often as possible so that you don’t miss the update that will boost your camcorder’s performance.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
