Synology DS-101 Disk Station Firmware 2.0.1-.3.0371 Description

Important Notes:

- Before you apply the upgrade, please BACK UP YOUR DATA and REBOOT your DS-101 first in order for this upgrade to apply successfully.
- If you fail to upgrade and see "error 24", it's our protection mechanism. Please make sure you complete the upgrade within 5 minutes after rebooting.

Modified Items:

- (1545) FTP forbids "guest" login.
- (1546) FTP forbids users without a password to login.
- (1693) DS Assistant is renamed to Synology Assistant. The default browser using Synology Assistant on Mac OS is changed to Safari.

New Features:

- Download Station is added.
- (791) Authentication for SMTP server is added to "Network > Mail" page.
- (849) UPnP Multimedia Service is added. The following file formats are supported from this version on.
- (1345) Anonymous FTP support is added.
- (1548) Advanced scheduler is added to USB backup.
- (1549) PHP MySQL is added.
- (1555) Network Backup is added.
- (1684) Album access control is added to Photo Station.
- (1940) An option is provided to hide the shared folders from being seen in Windows My Network Places.
- (2147) "Shutdown" and "Reboot" options are added to the web management UI.
- (2168) UPS support through USB interface is added. Currently "APC Back-UPS ES 500" has been tested.
- (2447) User quota is added.
- (1979) System default shared folders (photo, web, video, music, ) are removable from this version on.

Enhanced items:

- (1582) Mac performance is enhanced.
- (1824) 2GB limitation for USBCopy is removed from this release on. USB device over 2GB will be able to work as USBCopy source.

Limitation & Known Issues:

- DS-101 supports USB storage device and USB printer only. It does not support the USB storage device connected with USB hub.
- If the Networking setting is DHCP and DHCP server has WINS server service, DS-101 will not remove the WINS server setting. The reason is the existence of WINS server will make the DS-101 functions work in Windows network environment smoother, so as long as there is a method to get the WINS server information, DS-101 will not delete the WINS server setting, and it'll capture the WINS setting of DHCP server.
- Windows XP client: If the guest account is enabled and has no password on DS-101 , when a Windows XP client connects to DS-101 by CIFS, Windows XP will not ask for the name/password and automatically switch to use guest account to access DS-101 directly.
- Some USB disk requires plugging both USB connectors for getting enough power supply from USB connectors Alternatively such disk may use external power.

USB Disk Limitation:

- FAT32 format is portable, easy and convenient to use on Windows and Mac OS X.The maximum of the USB disk is 500GB. Mac OS 9 does not support FAT32.
- Native format is the most reliable format. USB disks with such format can be used among different Disk Stations.
- The USB disk must be larger than 1GB; the maximum is 750GB.

External Disk Limitation:

- FAT32 is supported on Windows and Mac OS X. Mac OS 9 does not support FAT32.
- The maximum hard disk capacity is 1 TB

  It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
