Firmware Installation Instruction

- Sound Devices recommends backing up any existing data that may reside on the recorder. While no data on the storage is changed during the update process, it is best practice to back up the unit. It is also highly recommended to save the current device settings since a firmware update can result in settings changing to factory default.
- Download the firmware.zip file.
- From the zip archive, extract the .prg file.
- Copy the .prg file to the root level of an SSD in a PIX-CADDY, CF memory card or HDD. The card or SSD must be formatted as an exFAT volume. (The storage medium should be formatted by PIX/970.)
- Power the recorder from external DC. Do not perform the update with an unstable power source.
- Insert the SSD , CF card or HDD with the .prg file.
- Power on the recorder.
- Once booted, push the MENU button to open the Main Menu. Turn the Control knob to highlight System, and then press the Control knob to select it.
- Turn the Control knob to highlight Update Software, and then press the Control Knob to select it.
- Once a prg has been selected, you will need to reconfirm that the file selected is the correct one. Select Yes to proceed with the firmware update or select No to exit the Software Update. The unit will take a few minutes to update the firmware, indicating its progress. When the update is finished, the unit will present a dialog indicating it will shut down. Accept this dialog to complete the update process.
- A dialog will appear asking: "Are you sure?" Make sure Yes is highlighted, then push in the Control knob to initiate the update. The unit will take a few minutes to update the firmware, indicating its progress. When the update is finished, the unit will present a dialog indicating it will shut down. Accept this dialog to complete the update process.
- Review settings after updating.

About DJ Mixers:

Updating the mixer’s firmware version can add support for newly developed features (or improve existing ones), enhance audio quality and transition effects, resolve different problems such as those regarding various noises heard in certain situations, and many other related improvements.

However, before downloading this package, go to the unit’s system information and make sure that the currently installed firmware isn’t either newer or matches this release. Moreover, you should know that an update failure might seriously damage the mixer’s software, so it is vital that you are familiar with the installation steps.

As for applying this release, you must transfer the downloadable package (or its content) to the mixer via any available methods, and power up the unit through various key combinations in order to enter update mode (make sure you read the product’s user guide).

This said, if you consider installing this release and you’re positive you have all the knowledge you need for a successful upgrade, download the package, and apply it to your mixer. Check with our website constantly so that you don’t miss any update that can improve your device.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
