- Corrects a phenomenon in which when using the camera with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM or EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to "Enable", correction will not be applied.
- Please use a fully-charged, dedicated battery pack and a dedicated AC adapter kit to power the camera.
- Before updating the firmware, initialize the SD, SDHC or SDXC memory card in the camera. When you initialize the SD memory card, any data written on it will be erased, so please be sure to save a copy of any important data on the card to your computer or somewhere other than the card prior to initializing it.
- Please be absolutely sure not to turn the power switch on the camera to OFF during the firmware update. If using a household power source, please be careful about power outages.
- During the firmware update, please do not open the battery cover or the memory card slot cover.
- During the firmware update, please do not operate any of the camera's buttons, dials or switches.
- After the firmware update is completed, it is not possible to revert back to a previous version.
- If the firmware update does not finish normally, or if the camera no longer starts normally, please contact our camera repair center.
- Save and unzip the downloadable archive onto a formatted memory card.
- Insert the SD memory prepared into the camera.
- Set the mode dial to [P/Tv/Av/M/C/Recording].
- Press the power button to turn the camera on in shooting mode.
- Press the [MENU] button to display the menu screen.
- Press the [ Left ][ Right ] buttons or use the [ Settings ] dial to select the [ Settings - 4 ] tab.
- Press the [ Up ][ Down ] buttons to choose the firmware ver, and then press the [SET] button.
- With [Camera] selected, press the [SET] button.
- The current firmware version will be displayed, so choose [OK], and then press the [SET] button.
- Choose the file to use for the update, and then press the [SET] button.
- The firmware update confirmation screen appears, so choose [OK], and then press the [SET] button to start the firmware update.
- After the update is completed, the lamp on the back of the camera will stop blinking, and the power will be automatically turned off.
- Perform the operations in Step 1, and check that the [Firmware ver.] displayed has been updated to the new version.
- Press the power button to turn off the camera, and then remove the SD memory card.
Updating to a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your camera can improve the device’s overall performance and stability, resolve various issues, and add support for newly developed features or enhance existing ones.
On the other hand, downgrading the camera’s firmware can recover its functionality in the unlikely event the currently installed version is faulty or the device’s performance dropped after an upgrade. However, bear in mind that applying an earlier build might not always be possible.
It is recommended that changing the camera’s firmware be performed when the new release resolves an issue that your device has been encountering, or adds a new feature (or enhances an existing one) that could prove useful for you.
This process isn’t intended to be destructive, but still, it’s best to save all your personal data and configurations before applying a different firmware. Moreover, make sure that the battery is fully charged and don’t use the camera’s buttons while the installation is in progress.
When it comes to the update method, usually, you must copy the firmware file onto a compatible memory card, insert it into the camera, and browse from the menu to the device’s update section.
However, each device has various ways to enter the update mode and particular steps that should be taken for a successful upgrade, therefore make sure you read the product’s installation guide.
