To Check MIDI Firmware Version On Your GS-R24:
- Switch on the GS-R24 whilst holding down the transport GTE button. This will display the current MIDI firmware version on the Solo/Select and Transport switches.

- Pressing the transport STOP button will return the desk to normal operation. If your firmware matches the latest version listed on the Allen and Heath website then your MIDI firmware is up to date and nothing needs to be done. If they are different, follow the instructions below.
- This procedure can be performed on a Apple MAC or Windows PC.
1. Download the .zip firmware file.
2. Place the downloaded .zip file into a known location on your computer for example the desktop.
3. Make sure the Desk and Computer have a constant power supply while updating the MIDI firmware.
4. Extract the file to the Desktop.
5. Connect either physical MIDI leads (making sure correct way round OUT to IN and IN to OUT) or Firewire lead.
6. Switch the desk on.
WARNING DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER. POWERING OFF DURING AN UPDATE CAN RENDER THE FIREWIRE UNUSABLE.
7.1 Windows Users: Locate the ‘GSR Programmer.exe’ file and double click to launch it.
7.2 Apple MAC Users: Locate the ‘MAC GSR_24 MIDI Programmer’ application and double click to launch it.
8. Follow the on screen prompts.
9. After the update finishes turn off the desk for five seconds. Re-apply power whilst holding the transport GTE button to view the firmware version and confirm that the update was successful.
10. Press the transport STOP button to return the desk to normal operation.
Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.
On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop.
