- This firmware version is only for EOS C100 cameras with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade. If the EOS C100 camera doesn’t have the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade applied, please download Canon EOS C100 Firmware.
- If your camera's firmware is already running the present version or newer, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camera is updated to the latest firmware version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.
- All camera settings will be reset formatted when you perform the firmware update.
- It is not possible to revert the firmware back to a previous version after you have performed the firmware update.
- Please be absolutely sure NOT to operate the camera buttons or remove the camera’s power source during the firmware update. Doing so may cause the camera to malfunction.
- Connect the compact power adapter and DC cable to the camera, and insert the battery pack into the camera.
- Slide the POWER switch to CAMERA.
- Press the MENU, and open the [Firmware] submenu. The current camera firmware version will appear on the screen.
- Press the MENU, and slide the POWER switch to OFF.
- The firmware update takes approximately 6 minutes to complete. During the update, please do not turn off the camera or operate any of its controls. Doing so may cause the camera to malfunction.
- Insert the SD card into the camera’s SD card slot A.
- Slide the power switch to CAMERA.
- Press the MENU, and open the [Initialize Media] submenu. [ Other Functions] -> [Initialize Media]
- Select [ A] and then press the joystick.
- Select [Complete] and then press the joystick.
- Select [OK] and then press the joystick.
- If you are using the [Complete] initialization option, press the joystick twice to cancel the operation while it is in progress. You can use the SD card but all data will be erased.
- When the confirmation message appears, press the joystick.
- The SD card is initialized and all the data it contains is erased.
- Press the MENU, and slide the power switch to OFF, and then remove the SD card from the camera.
- Save and unzip the downloadable archive.
- Insert the initialized SD card into a card reader or the computer’s SD card slot.
- Copy the data, drag & drop the .FIM and safely remove the card.
- After inserting the charged battery pack into the camera, connect the camera to the power outlet using the compact power adapter.
- Insert the SD card prepared into the camera’s SD card slot A.
- Slide the POWER switch to CAMERA.
- Press the MENU, open the [Firmware] submenu, and then press the joystick. [ Other Functions] -> [Firmware]. The firmware update confirmation screen will be displayed.
- When you select [OK] and then press the joystick, the firmware update will start.
- After the update ends, the camera will restart automatically, and a firmware update completion screen will be displayed.
- When you press the joystick, all settings will be reset and the [Date/Time] screen will appear. Set the date/time.
- Check that the firmware version has changed to the desired one.
- Slide the POWER switch to OFF, and then remove the SD card.
Updating to a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your camera can improve the device's overall performance and stability, resolve various issues, and add support for newly developed features or enhance existing ones.
On the other hand, downgrading the camera's firmware can recover its functionality in the unlikely event the currently installed version is faulty or the device's performance dropped after an upgrade. However, bear in mind that applying an earlier build might not always be possible.
It is recommended that changing the camera's firmware be performed when the new release resolves an issue that your device has been encountering, or adds a new feature (or enhances an existing one) that could prove useful for you.
This process isn't intended to be destructive, but still, it's best to save all your personal data and configurations before applying a different firmware. Moreover, make sure that the battery is fully charged and don't use the camera's buttons while the installation is in progress.
When it comes to the update method, usually, you must copy the firmware file onto a compatible memory card, insert it into the camera, and browse from the menu to the device's update section.
However, each device has various ways to enter the update mode and particular steps that should be taken for a successful upgrade, therefore make sure you read the product's installation guide.
