This update fixes a problem which caused the MOTIF’s operation to become unstable if a computer (Mac or Windows) was powered off while connected to the unit through USB.
1. Update the MOTIF’s firmware to version 1.40. Be sure to read the MOTIF6/MOTIF7/MOTIF8 v1.40 updater Read-me file before updating the unit.
2. Connect the MOTIF to your computer with a USB cable. The USB-MIDI driver and OMS (in case of Macintosh) must be installed and properly set up on your computer before installing the update. Refer to the TOOLS FOR MOTIF6/7/8 Installation Guide for information on how to install and set up the USB-MIDI driver and OMS on your computer.
3. Quit all other applications and disable screen savers before installing the update.
4. Place the MOTIF in Voice mode.
5. Open the file “MOTIFUsbV110.mid.” If you are using a Windows PC, you can use Windows Media Player or the Logic demo on the bundled CD-ROM to open the file. If you are using a Macintosh, you can open the file with the Cubase or Logic demo on the bundled CD-ROM. When using Cubase, select “Import MIDI File” from the File menu.
6. Set the output port of the data track to USB OUT 0-1 (Windows) or Port 1 (Macintosh). Mac users: If you have changed the name of port 1, select the changed name. Windows Media Player users: In the Multimedia tag in the Control panel, select USB OUT 0-1 as the output driver.
7. Start the sequencer. (Let it play for about 7 seconds.) DO NOT stop the sequencer while the data is being transmitted.
8. Stop the sequencer and power the MOTIF off and on. Restart the computer.
9. On the MOTIF, press the [UTILITY] button and then [INFORMATION]. The firmware version will be displayed on the right side of the LCD panel. If “USB firmware ver1.10” is shown, the update is complete. If the displayed firmware version is different than ver1.10, the update has not completed successfully. In such a case, reinstall the update.
• If you do not use the MOTIF’s USB function, this update is not needed.
• Be sure to read the MOTIF6/MOTIF7/MOTIF8 v1.40 updater Read-me file before updating the unit.
• This update is to be installed at your own risk.
• Be sure to back up any important data before installing the update.
• Do not shut down your computer or power off the MOTIF during installation.
• Do not change the sequencer tempo when playing back the update file.
• If the MOTIF power cable comes unplugged during installation, or if the operation fails for some other reason, try installing the update again.
- This updater is only for the MOTIF XF synthesizer.
- This updater is to be applied at the user's own risk.
- The unit may become inoperable if the electrical supply is interrupted while running the updater (by pulling out the AC cord, etc.). In such a case, reapply the updater from the first step.
- If the unit does not function after reapplying the update, please contact your nearest Yamaha service center.
Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.
On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop. However, bear in mind that applying an older firmware isn’t recommended and might not always be possible.
When it comes to the update steps, due to the large variety of devices and numerous ways for installing a new firmware, it is recommended that you carefully read and understand the upgrade steps, and consider applying a different firmware only when you have familiarized yourself with the update method.
As the installation process is most of the times quite risky, this step should be taken by users that have the ability to successfully complete the update; regular users may initiate it at their own risk. Moreover, it’s best that this task be performed in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.
Therefore, if you consider applying this release, hit the download button, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, and update the device’s firmware. Also make sure you constantly check with our website to ensure that you don’t miss a single new release.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
