KNOWN ISSUES 2016.10.1633 Release

Audio
- When playing back short 50/60p files if “Skip Frames” is not set, audio static can occur. Recorded files are unaffected.
- Occasionally the SDI/HDMI outputs can exhibit static in the audio. To correct, perform a Factory RESET then reselect desired settings.

Play
- Canon RAW and VariCam LT RAW playback may be jumpy. To correct, select a point within the clip and press PLAY. If this does not correct issue, deselect clip then reselect.
- VariCam LT RAW playback image may occasionally appear incorrect when switching from Record to Playback or when mixing various frame rates or resolutions. Deselect the desired clip, then reselect from the playback menu to correct.
- DPX 2K 12-bit playback is not supported.
- Audio Meters when paused during Play, meters show all 8 channels at random levels.
- Occasionally Indiecam RAW when switched from Record to Playback, will display as purple. Toggle between Record/Play, or deselect then reselect the desired clip to correct.
- Occasionally a RAW file will appear corrupted in Playback. Toggle between Record/Play, or scrub through the clip to correct. Recorded files are unaffected.
- When playing back 720p in HD ProRes or Titan, note there are display artifacts that appear above the scrub bar, note this is a playback issue, recorded files are unaffected.
- Using the Previous and Next clip buttons to play multiple clips, if clips vary in format, resolution or bit-depth a scrambled image may appear. Deselect then reselect the desired clip to correct. Recordings are unaffected.
- 4K ProRes 1:1 zoom, may shift image, when zooming to right hand corner, this is a playback artifact, recording is unaffected.
- In various Record modes, and using 1:1 zoom, may result in the image may become stretched, current work around is to use 2:1 zoom when this occurs.

Record
- Pixel Zoom, Vectorscope, and Spot Meter are disabled during record in Quad-HD, Dual-HD, Dual-4K, and 2K High Speed Apple ProRes to avoid recording errors.
- Record spanning from SSD 2 back to SSD 1 is no longer supported.
- 1.5G-SDI Quad-Link for 4K/UHD up to 30p is no longer supported (use 3G-SDI Dual-Link). 3G-SDI Quad-Link for 4K/UHD up to 60p is supported.
- In rare cases when switching frame rates on the FS700, a false camera trigger may occur, resulting in a 1 second file, it is recommend for all FS700 users to be using the latest camera firmware.
- In IO 4K RAW, when powered off the camera will revert to 4K30p. To set to 4K60p, disconnect SDI C on Odyssey, change camera setting to 4K60p, then reconnect SDI C.
- ARRI 6G-SDI not currently supported. BlackMagic Design 6G-SDI is supported with 7Q+ and Apollo.

Apollo
- In Apollo mode, when using LTC In timecode source, cameras must be genlocked to prevent timecode drift.
- In Apollo mode, when using Pixel Zoom, on-screen camera angle labels may not be correctly aligned.
- In Apollo mode, Anamorphic Desqueeze is not available.
- Apollo Dual-4K does not support loss of source. If either video signal is lost the recording will stop.
- In Apollo Mode, Camera Trigger from Master Input B not functional.
- In Apollo Mode, Master Camera does not affect Analog Audio. If selected, Analog Audio is always sent to Input A and Quad-Split/Live-Switch.
- In Apollo mode, occasionally when playing back A,B,C,D + Live Switch the image will appear incorrect (inverted or wrong colors on one or more of the video outputs). To correct, Factory RESET the the unit.
- Master Selection B is non-functioning (Audio and Timecode come from A input)

Other
- Files recorded with previous firmware builds not compatible with 2016.10
- Shutdown/Eject SSD: OLED Flickers while Updating Clips
- During firmware update the OLED display may go black. To correct, connect a video signal to SDI A IN.
- It is recommend that all users do a FACTORY RESET after the firmware update is complete.
- Camera Trigger is now passed through to SDI outputs. A device utilizing the trigger signal will have a momentary interruption in the video signal at the end of each recording. This interruption will not be recorded.
- Panasonic GH4 firmware v2.4 is recommended for correct Camera Trigger function with Odyssey/Apollo.
- When updating firmware, some devices may display “Error Reading Update File”. If this occurs, disconnect and then reconnect power and run the update again.
- Occasionally after a firmware update when loading modes the unit will report an Error 8 warning (ie “Eroor 8 Loading 4K ProRes”). Power cycle unit, perform a Factory Reset, and select the record mode again to correct. If issue reoccurs, select a different record mode, then load in the desired recording mode.
- In VariCam LT RAW on rare occasions the timecode will reset to 00:00:00:00 for the first frame of recording. All other recorded frames will contain the proper timecode.
- In VariCam LT RAW when recording in VFR the timecode will always be based on the Project Setting at the beginning of record.
- In Titan Extract mode, if the unit is powered up with the incorrect Record window setting (1080p vs 720p) for the camera input, this may result in a black image, or scrolling B and C windows, to correct, disconnect the input, (HDMi or SDI) change the setting from 1080 to 720, and reconnect the input.
- In the latest update for FCPX, for Mac OS 10.10 and newer, this appears to to have broken FCPX Compatibility with CinemaDNG (FSRAW, Varicam LT RAW, IO 2k, IO 4K, and Indiecam RAW) Support. The current workaround, if you have updated, is to use Davanci Resolve Lite (Free).

ODYSSEY/APOLLO FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:

To update firmware on an Odyssey or Apollo device, a Convergent Design SSD or a qualified 3rd party SSD must be used. Note that previously recorded files will not be playable on the unit once updated, so all files on the SSD and any other SSDs must be downloaded before updating.

1. ERASE & FORMAT the SSD on an Odyssey or Apollo.
2. Mount this SSD to a computer using an SSD adapter/reader to USB-3 or Thunderbolt.
3. Click DOWNLOAD NOW button on this page to download the Firmware Update to a folder on the computer. Do not download directly to the SSD. Convergent Design recommends a copy of the firmware update be maintained on the computer for possible future use.
4. On a Windows computer, unzip the download. Open the unzipped folder.
5. On a Mac, the download will automatically unzip. Open the folder.
6. Within the download folder, copy the }Odyssey_Update{ folder from your computer to the root director of the SSD. This may also be shown as a }CD_Update{ folder.
- Copy to the root directory; do NOT copy it into the }Clips{________Odyssey folder.
- Copy the complete }CD_Update{ folder; do NOT copy individual files within the folder.
- Copy only the }CD_Update{ folder, do NOT copy the entire contents of the folder download.
Note that the download’s other content includes useful software, instructions and manuals.
7. Dismount the SSD from the computer and insert into Odyssey or Apollo.
8. Power on Odyssey or Apollo.
- A notice will appear recommending the use of AC power as the firmware update can take up to 45 minutes to complete.
- There are CANCEL and OK buttons at the bottom of the OLED screen, but the update will proceed automatically after 30 seconds.
- During update a progress bar indicates how the update is proceeding, but in some cases the OLED screen will go black.
- If this should happen, the update is still in progress so the device should be allowed to continue for one hour, then power cycled (see below).
- Plugging a signal into SDI A IN will sometimes correct this issue.
9. When the progress bar reaches 100%, remove the SSD from the unit and power down.
10. Power on the unit. When it completes booting, insert the same SSD.
11. The Firmware Update notice will appear again. Press CANCEL.
12. ERASE & FORMAT the SSD.
NOTE: It is recommended that all users do a factory reset after the firmware update is complete.

About Video Recorder Adapters:

Applying a new firmware package on your Video Recorder adapter should improve overall performance and stability, fix various issues encountered with the device, or add support for newly developed features.

The Video Recorder adapter should be carefully upgraded by a power user (that is to say, someone who has the know-how to successfully complete the process), but it can also be performed by an average user at his or her own risk.

Either way, given the fact that each producer has their own method for installing a new firmware, and that every device has a particular way to enter the update mode, you must not consider upgrading the adapter’s software until you have read and thoroughly understood the installation steps.

As a rule, said steps shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge because manufacturers strive to make them as easy as possible. As with everything else, exceptions do occur, and users should be prepared for them.

Usually, you should transfer the compatible firmware to the Recorder through a USB cable or a memory card, and afterwards enter update mode from the unit’s setup menu or through a specific power-on method.

With this in mind, if you intend to apply this release, make sure the package is compatible with your Video Recorder and that it brings about the changes you want or require; hit the download button and apply the new firmware.

Don’t forget to regularly check with our website so that you don’t miss any updates.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
