MOTU AVB firmware update:

If your MOTU AVB interface (and the computer it is connected to) has no internet access, you can download a firmware update file from another computer that does have internet, and then use the file to update your MOTU interface, as follows:
- Download the latest firmware file.
- Transfer the file to a computer with a network cable connection to your MOTU interface.
- Launch the MOTU AVB Control web app on the computer, as usual.
NOTE: Make sure the web app is communicating with your interface using the device's IP address or ".local" address, which ensures that communication is through the network connection for the firmware update. To do so, check that the URL in your web browser reads something like "192.168.3.196" or "http://1248.local/ ", not "http://localhost:1280" (which means the connection is through USB or Thunderbolt). If not, close your browser window and choose your interface again from the Discovery App menu. If the network connection has been established successfully, the icon for your device in the Discovery App menu looks like the interface itself (instead of a laptop icon, which indicates a USB or Thunderbolt connection). If you are running on Windows, press the ID button on your interface to get its IP address, then type that address into your browser.
- Go to the Device tab.
- Scroll down to the bottom and click "Update from File".
- Locate the file on your hard drive and click OK to start the update.
- Wait a few moments for the update to finish, then click OK to return to the Device tab.

NOTE:

when installing new firmware, also be sure to install the latest Mac and Windows drivers found at the top of this web page.
For Windows operation, added 'Host Safety Offset' setting (previously known as 'USB Streaming Mode') in the web app Device tab.

About Device Firmware:

Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.

On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop. However, bear in mind that applying an older firmware isn’t recommended and might not always be possible.

When it comes to the update steps, due to the large variety of devices and numerous ways for installing a new firmware, it is recommended that you carefully read and understand the upgrade steps, and consider applying a different firmware only when you have familiarized yourself with the update method.

As the installation process is most of the times quite risky, this step should be taken by users that have the ability to successfully complete the update; regular users may initiate it at their own risk. Moreover, it’s best that this task be performed in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

Therefore, if you consider applying this release, hit the download button, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, and update the device’s firmware. Also make sure you constantly check with our website to ensure that you don’t miss a single new release.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
