Sony AXS-R5 Recorder Firmware 2.0 Description

This firmware can be updated from any existing firmware version of PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 directly. When you update and use F55/F5 with AXR-R5, you must update R5 to V2.0 simultaneously. After updating to V2.0, F55/F5 and R5 must not be downgraded to previous version.  

Attention:

- When you directly update F55 and F5 to V2.0 from V1.15 and earlier, you must do “All Reset” in System menu. Otherwise V2.0 software becomes unstable. If you want to maintain menu setting before update, please save “All File” in File menu and load it after updating. If you had already updated F55 and F5 to V1.20 and later and did “All Reset”, you don’t need to do “All Reset” again.

Functional Improvement:

1. High Frame Rate (HFR) Recording
In case of XAVC 1920x1080P, you can select 120FPS HFR recording. And in case of RAW recording with AXR-R5, you can select 120FPS, 180FPS and 240FPS HFR 2KRAW recording with no windowing of image sensor.
When recording HFR more than 120FPS, moiré might occur in high frequency areas of the picture. You can reduce moiré by attaching an optional CBK-55F2K Optical 2K Filter. When you would like to check which filter is attached, please push STATUS button and check Camera status screen.

2. Simultaneous recording XAVC HD and 2KRAW on 120FPS

In case of RAW recording with AXR-R5 and selecting 120FPS, F55/F5 and R5 can simultaneously record XAVC HD on SxS Memory and 2KRAW on AXS Memory.

3. 24.0p system frequency

24.0p system frequency is supported on XAVC and RAW recording mode.

4. XAVC 2048x1080P

XAVC 2048x1080P format is supported on F55/F5. Supported system frequency is the same as XAVC 1980x1080P.

5. Support Mount Adapter LA-FZB1/FZB2

LA-FZB1 and LA-FZB2 are supported. Two third inch lenses can be attached to F55/F5 and communicate information with F55/F5.

6. Direct setting items on the sub display are expanded

You can set “Audio level control”, “Audio channel select” and “Time code setting” directly from the AU/TC button next to sub display. And you can control “All File Load” “Scene Recall” and “Lens Recall” directly from the FILE button. Additionally you can control “Color Bars”, “Auto White”, “Auto Black” and “SDI(Sub) Disp On/Off” from the CAMERA button page.2.

7. Additional displayed information on Sub display

Audio level scale is displayed between CH2 and CH3 level meter. And Clip name is displayed between Time code and media remain. It displays recording clip name on recording, next clip name on stand-by and playing clip name on playback.

8. Control EI value and MLUT ON/OFF on Sub display

On CineEI mode, you can control EI value (13 steps) and MLUT On/Off on Sub display.

9. S-Log2 is added as MLUT P4

S-Log2 is added for the selectable MLUT P4 on CineEI mode.

10. Waveform, Vector and Histogram monitor on VF and SDI OUT

You can display Waveform, Vector and Histogram monitor on VF and Monitor out by the assignable button.

11. False Color function on DVF-EL100 and DVF-L700

False Color function helps users to adjust proper exposure easily and speedily. This function works on S-Log2 Gamma (Custom mode) or S-Log2 MLUT (Cine-EI mode) selected. When you press SPARE button on VF, 6 colors are displayed on VF.
In order to use this function, DVF-EL100 and L700 need to be update V1.1 firmware which released today, 5 th of October, with SERVICE JIGs. Please ask sales or SONY SERVICE for updating.
Please note that V1.1 of DVF-EL100 and DVF-L700 work with ONLY V2.0 of F55/F5. When you attach V1.1 of EL100 and L700 to V1.22 and earlier of F55/F5, you can see nothing on the VF.

12. User Box Marker

User Box Marker allows you to set the size and location you want.

13. Focus Assist Indicator

Focus Assist Indicator assists your focus adjustment on center area of picture.

14. Flicker reduce function

Flicker reduce function can reduce flicker that occurs when shooting under the indoor lighting and something.

15. All SDI outputs work simultaneously

SDI OUT2 can output the same signal of SDI OUT1 and SDI OUT4 can output the same signal of SDI OUT4 simultaneously.

16. SD signal from SDI3/4 and TEST OUT

SD SDI output is selectable from SDI3/4 and Analog composite signal is selectable from TEST OUT

17. 3840x2160P Output from SDI Out and HDMI connector (F55 only)

3840 x 2160P signal is selectable from SDI Out and HDMI connector in addition to 4096x2160P on XAVC 4K mode. Also you can select Letter Box or Edge Crop.

18. Support 2-sample interleave division method for 4K output (F55 only)

2-sample interleave division method for 4K and QFHD output is selectable in addition to Square division method.

19. Rec Review function on SxS Memory

You can playback and check a previous recorded clip on SxS Memory easily by the assignable button.

20. Support FUJINON Cabrio lens series and Sony SCL-Z18x140 Zoom Lens

We support FUJINON Cabrio lens series. It can be directly attached to F55/F5 PL mount via lens hot shoe. You can control Iris, Focus and Zoom from RM-B series via REMOTE cable and you can push the Rec Trigger button of FUJINON Cabrio. Also Sony SCL-Z18x140 Zoom lens can be attached to F55/F5 FZ mount. You can control Iris,Focus and Zoom from RM-B series via REMOTE cable.

21. Support User Gamma

You can load gamma curves which are created by CvpFileEditor V4.2 (from SD cards). Please note that created files should be copied at the following directory on SD Card. Directory: (root)/Private/Sony/PRO/CAMERA/HD_CAM/

22. RGB gamma control independently

When Gamma category is set to STD, you can adjust RGB gamma level independently.

23. Support new XQD memory card

New XQD memory card (QD-S64E, QD-S32E and QD-N64) can be supported. Supported format is below.

24. Update Media function for the administrative file

Administrative file of SxS Memory and AXSMemory can be updated when the media cannot be opened correctly on F55/F5.

25. Changeable Forced Menu Display

You can change forced menu display output from SDI (sub) and VF on Video Menu.

26. Selectable Pop-upped indication on VF and SDI OUT

You can turn off Pop-upped notification on VF and SDI OUT such as changing ND Filter on VF Menu.

27 Support Chinese display

Chinese (simplified Chinese) Setup menus and most warning messages are selectable on System Menu.

28. Improve a response of 700p protocol

We improve a response of REMOTE control from RM-B controller.

29. ABB and APR on SStP recording mode

ABB and APR functions work on SStP.

30. Change a default setting for SDI output format

We changed a default setting for SDI(Main) output format to “1920x1080i” from “1920x1080p” on 60p and 50p system frequency.

31. Change a default setting for Lens Interface

We changed a default setting for Lens Interface to “Off” from “Type C”.

32. Change a default setting of recording media on CineEI mode

We changed a default setting of recording media on CineEI mode to “AXS” from “AXS & SxS”

33. Change an operation when selecting “AXS & SxS” and not inserting AXS Memory

We changed an operation when selecting “AXS & SxS” and not inserting AXS Memory. When “AXS & SxS” is selected as recording media and AXS isn’t inserted to R5, you cannot start recording even if you push Rec button.

34. Change an operation when selecting different color sampling and playback on SStP

We changed an operation when selecting different color sampling and playback on SStP. F55/F5 on RGB Main operation and SStP mode cannot playback YPbPr SStP crips and vice versa.

Notification we should share with users:

1. Rec Tally of F55/F5 and R5
On RAW Recording, actual starting recording is delayed from lighting F55/F5 Rec tally. In order to avoid miss shooting, please check R5’s tally. It is synced with RAW recording correctly.

2. Playback after seeing Standby displayed

Please playback after seeing Standby displayed on VF or Sub Display when you insert the SxS Memory. Otherwise playback operation is not stable.

3. Changing System Frequency and Rec Format

Unusually Menu scroll becomes slow and some SDI ports doesn’t work when F55/F5 system frequency and Rec Format is changed. When you meet this trouble, please reboot F55 and F5.

  It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
