Extron VNM 200 Video Over IP Encoder/Decoder Firmware 4.6.9 Description

This package provides the necessary installation files of Extron VNM 200 Video Over IP Encoder/Decoder Firmware 4.6.9. In order to install this firmware version, your current version must be 3.10.9.

Improvements to the Command Line Interface (CLI):

- Device object: Addition of ‘hwcaps’ attribute. In order to provide additional data to external control systems, the ‘hwcaps’ attribute has now been added to report the type of hardware connected to a System Controller. The attribute can be accessed via the ‘get’ command in the CLI. The current reported values are “C4PN,C4PN” and “SD3C,SD3C”, representing VNM 200
and 300 devices respectively.
- Player object: Addition of ‘playOffsetSec’ and ‘playOffsetUsec’. These attributes have been added to the player object in order to allow an offset time to be specified (in seconds and microseconds respectively) in conjunction with the existing ‘playStart’ command when playing back a VNM Recorder file.
- Player object: Addition of ‘pauseAt’. The ‘pauseAt’ attribute has been added to the player object and is used in conjunction with ‘recMode’. This allows the user to specify that a recording made on a VNM Recorder should be paused at a pre-defined system time set via ‘pauseAtTime’.
- Player object: Addition of ‘pstatus’ and ‘pstatusUS’. These read-only attributes have been added to the player object in order to allow reporting of the elapsed duration in seconds (‘pstatus’) or microseconds (‘pstatusUS’) of a currently playing VN Recorder file.
- Player object: Addition of user variables. Four user-definable variables (localVar1 to localVar4) have been added to the player object in order to store free form information up to a maximum of 64 characters. This allows the user to define multiple start and end points in time via an external control system for the playing back of sections within a VNM Recorder file.
- File Browser object: Addition of ‘freeMB’ attribute. This read-only attribute reports the remaining storage space available (in megabytes) on a VNM Recorder device.

Improvements to the SNMP system:

- OID change: The SNMP Object Identifier (OID) has been changed to ‘EXTRON OID 18026’ in order to comply fully with the existing Extron SNMP format.
- Addition of ‘agentMIBVersionTop’ and ‘agentMIBVersionSub’. These read-only attributes have been added to the CLI to allow reporting of the version number (top and sub version respectively) of the Management Information Base (MIB) within the SNMP system.

Bug fixes:

- BT 35675: Illegal (out of range) IP addresses can no longer be entered via the ENVSETUP or serial configuration utility.
- BT 32763: Admin passwords containing spaces are now supported by the Command Line Interface (CLI).
- Standby mode: The standby option has been removed from VNM 300 devices. This feature is relevant only to the VNM 200/225 series.

Installation steps:

1. Log in to the web interface.
2. From the Device List page click on the controller device.
3. From the Device page click the Upgrade tab. The Upgrade page will appear.
4. Click the Browse button to navigate to the required upgrade file, or type the path and filename directly into the field provided.
5. Click the Upload button to begin uploading the file to the controller. This may take a few minutes.
6. Once the file is uploaded, you can begin installing it into each unit, starting with the controller unit.

Installing the new firmware into each unit:

1. From the Device List page, click on the VNC 200 unit that you want to upgrade.
2. From the Device page click the Upgrade tab. The Upgrade page will appear.
3. Click the Select Firmware Version drop-down menu and choose the new firmware file you want to install. Usually there will only be one file listed (the file that you uploaded using the procedure in the previous section).
4. Click the forward button. The Device Upgrade Status field will show PREPARE and percentage progress. This stage may last a few minutes.
5. When READY TO ACTIVATE appears, click the forward button again.
6. The unit will then reboot. Once rebooted the Device Upgrade Status field will show READY TO COMMIT and the VNC 200 will be using the new firmware. Test for correct operation.
7. If everything is working correctly, click forward again to permanently install the new firmware. The Device Upgrade Status field will show COMMITTING and percentage progress. This stage may last a few minutes.
NOTE: If you experience any problems, click reverse to return to the previous stage.
8. When the Device Upgrade Status field returns to WAIT the unit is ready for use.

About General Device Firmware:

Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.

On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop. However, bear in mind that applying an older firmware isn’t recommended and might not always be possible.
