- User Guide
The user guide was substantially updated so please make sure to refer to this for a full description and information on how to use the product and these new features.
- Upgrades
Sometimes during an upgrade from the original v02.02.65 upgrade, the UI will report that the modem firmware did not upgrade. This is a false failure as after the upgrade you can check the About screen and see that the modem firmware (under “router firmware”) did upgrade. If the upgrade was successful, the “Router Firmware” should be NTG9X15C_45.04.24.00.
- Use Chrome for the Best WebUI Experience
Chrome is recommended to provide the best WebUI experience with this product. IE v11 or higher is also acceptable, and Firefox is not recommended.
- Cannot Upgrade from IP Pass Thru Mode:
If you are upgrading from 02.02.65 to 02.02.84 you will need to make sure your device is running in default NAT (Network Address Translation) mode. There is currently a limitation in 02.02.65 that will not allow upgrades if you are running in IPPT (IP Pass Through) mode.
- Dual WAN Failover
If you are using the DNS method to confirm a link is up, please be aware that some upstream devices assign their own DNS servers to you, and not DNS servers on the Internet. This could mean that your internet connectivity is not working, but you can still see these DNS servers.
Thus, please be aware of your network topology and we also recommend using the IP address Ping method when using Dual WAN.
Using the DNS detection method when Ethernet/Wireline is the primary and Mobile is the backup, when the Ethernet/Wireline data connection is lost the device may not properly failover/fallback as expected.
- IPPT Mode Network IP address Display
While a device is running in IPPT mode, the WAN status or Network status pages may sometimes display an incorrect address such as 10.x.x.x instead of the actual wireless network assigned IPPT IP address. The connection is not affected and this is a UI related issue.
- Configuration Files
If you are re-loading a CFG file, it should be from a router with same firmware as the router receiving the configuration file. Settings on new features may not all be set to a default state if you load a config file from v02.02.65 to the new v02.02.84. You should make a new config file backup after you upgrade and confirm the new settings are how you want them.
For OTA upgrades you should see an alert “Update Available” or you can check for update manually. You will need to be connected to the 3G or 4G network to perform this. To perform a manual check Go to Settings Software and Reset then from the Software Update section click on Check for Update
The device will check for new updates on every power up as well as every 7 days, so if you get the alert you can proceed by clicking on “Update Now.”
Direct File method: You can also download the v84 firmware from the Netgear support site, under filename “LG6100D-10000SMobileApp.rel.upg”.
- From the home page, go to Settings - Software and Reset - Manual Software Update - “Upload”
- Choose the file you just downloaded and then click the Upload button.
- The upgrade process then display the screen below noted under “Installing Software and Restarting Router…”
: You must be in regular NAT mode to perform the upgrade from the original v02.02.65 release. You cannot be in IP Pass Thru mode.
: You need to clear your browser history (cache) after update completes in order to see the new features added in this release.
: Sometimes during an upgrade from the original v02.02.65 upgrade, on an un-activated device, the UI will report that the modem firmware did not upgrade. This is a false failure as after the upgrade you can check the About screen and see that the modem firmware (under “router firmware”) did upgrade. If the upgrade was successful, the “Router Firmware” should be NTG9X15C_45.04.24.00.
: If after the upgrade you do not see the new features or some things to not appear to be working as expected, it is recommended to perform a Settings Reset. This will reset the router back to the factory default settings, including for all new features, and ensure all the new features are enabled. You can perform this by visiting: Settings Software and Resets Settings Reset.
Before you consider downloading this firmware, go to the system information page of the router and make sure that the currently installed version isn’t either newer or matching this release.
Due to the large variety of router models and different methods for upgrading the device, it is highly recommended that you read and, above all, understand the installation steps before you apply the new firmware, even if you are a power user.
In theory, these steps shouldn’t be much of a hassle for anyone, because manufacturers try to make them as easy as possible, even if they don’t always succeed. Basically, you must upload the new firmware to the router through its administration page and allow it to upgrade.
If you install a new version, you can expect increased security levels, different vulnerability issues to be resolved, improved overall performance and transfer speeds, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, as well as several other changes.
If you’re looking for certain safety measures, remember that it would be best if you perform the upload using an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection, which can be interrupted easily. Also, make sure you don’t power off the router or use its buttons during the installation, if you wish avoid any malfunctions.
If this firmware meets your current needs, get the desired version and apply it to your router unit; if not, check with our website as often as possible so that you don’t miss the update that will improve your device.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
