HP Seagate 750-GB Barracuda 7200.11 SATA HDD Firmware HP26 Rev.A Description

This package provides a utility to upgrade firmware on certain serial ATA (SATA) hard drives (HDDs) for the supported workstation models and operating systems.  The firmware upgrade provides a preventative firmware fix for a known issue.

The utility included in this package upgrades the firmware on the following Seagate 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive that shipped on HP Workstations:

Seagate Model Number: ST3750630AS
HP Part Number: 460315-002
Firmware Revision: HP24

NOTE: The included utility checks to ensure that an affected hard drive model is installed before upgrading the firmware. If the correct hard drive model is not found, the firmware is not upgraded.

The new firmware fixes a well-publicized issue that could render the drive inoperable after a power cycle. Although the combined probabilities of all the required conditions for a drive failure are very small, HP recommends that all appropriate hard drives be upgraded as a preventative measure. After the upgrade, the firmware revision will be HP26.

The included utility creates a DOS bootable diskette (floppy), CD, or USB key that will contain all the files to update the identified hard drive.  However, the CD method of update is not supported on the HP Workstation xw9400.  Alternatively, you can copy the update utility files to a bootable medium you already have.

To create or modify the bootable medium, follow the instructions in the
MAKEIT.TXT file, which is located at the top level of the installed folder tree.

FIXES:

- Fixes a known issue involving the drive critical event log state at the time of a power cycle.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
