- To see if your camera requires a firmware update, first remove SD Card. Press and hold the DOWN selector, Turn camera to “SETUP” (this is “IRAIM” for 2015 models). Once camera powers on, release DOWN selector & press “OK”. The first screen that flashes will be the camera type, the second screen will be a 4 digit code that tells you the date of the firmware on the camera. You read this date as the last number of the year, the month, and the day. For example: 6308 is March 8, 2016.
- Before beginning installation of firmware on your camera, ensure the most recent version of firmware is downloaded to your computer
- Insert SD card into computer (using available slots or card reader adapter)
- Unzip the firmware file.
- Copy or Drag the unzipped firmware .BIN file directly to your SD card. Open the firmware folder to find the BIN file (do NOT drag the firmware folder). Before removing the SD card from the computer, ensure it is safely disconnected from the computer.
- Insert the SD card back into the camera. With power set to OFF, press and hold the “down” selector, as you hold it down, turn the power switch to “Setup” for 2016 cameras. On pre-2016 cameras you will turn the power switch to “IR Aim”.
- Once the unit powers up, release the down selector button, and press the “OK” button to initiate firmware update.
- System will reboot if the update is successful.
- A failure notification will appear for 2 reasons: either the camera already had the most updated firmware or the update did not complete successfully.
- Repeat the update process from the beginning. If you still receive a failure message, it’s safe to assume the camera firmware is updated.
- When updating a camera to be used with Moultrie Mobile, it is important to use the SD card from the camera that has been attached to the Moultrie mobile Field Modem. Once you have that SD card, or if you’re updating a camera that has never before been connected to a Moultrie Mobile Field Modem, proceed with the following firmware upgrade instructions for your camera.
Updating to a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your camera can improve the device’s overall performance and stability, resolve various issues, and add support for newly developed features or enhance existing ones.
On the other hand, downgrading the camera’s firmware can recover its functionality in the unlikely event the currently installed version is faulty or the device’s performance dropped after an upgrade. However, bear in mind that applying an earlier build might not always be possible.
It is recommended that changing the camera’s firmware be performed when the new release resolves an issue that your device has been encountering, or adds a new feature (or enhances an existing one) that could prove useful for you.
This process isn’t intended to be destructive, but still, it’s best to save all your personal data and configurations before applying a different firmware. Moreover, make sure that the battery is fully charged and don’t use the camera’s buttons while the installation is in progress.
When it comes to the update method, usually, you must copy the firmware file onto a compatible memory card, insert it into the camera, and browse from the menu to the device’s update section.
However, each device has various ways to enter the update mode and particular steps that should be taken for a successful upgrade, therefore make sure you read the product’s installation guide.
That being said, if you consider that this firmware improves your device in any way, then hit the download button and get the desired version; if not, check with our website as often as possible so that you don’t miss the update that will boost your camera’s performance.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
