Onset ZW-003 Wireless Sensor Firmware 68 Description

Firmware change description:

Firmware release addresses "test mode" issue. Prevents nodes from getting stuck in manufacturing test mode. Modified initialization code that checks the test mode flag in the EEPROM. Clears the flag after deciding to enter test mode. This allows the user to clear the problem by simply power cycling the device.

Obtaining the update:

- Download the firmware .hex file for your particular ZW model by right clicking on one of the following links (ctrl-click in OSX) and selecting "Save link as…" - and save the file to the correct location based on your operating system.
- HOBOware, HOBOnode Manager, and ZW Device Communication must be restarted to correctly identify the firmware files. Close HOBOware and HOBOnode Manager if open. If prompted to leave the device communication running in the background, click No. If HOBOware and HOBOnode Manager were already closed, but device communication was running, right-click (or left-click on a Mac) the HOBOware icon in the system tray and select Stop Device Communication.
- Open HOBOware and HOBOnode Manager again. Wait a couple of minutes for new data to be updated in HOBOnode Manager and for the firmware file to be recognized.
- In HOBOnode Manager, double-click the receiver (ZW-RCVR) you want to update in the Device Table (or select the receiver and click Configure).
- Click the "Update device firmware" button in the Configure Receiver window.
- If the "Update device firmware" button is disabled, HOBOnode Manager is still being updated after its restart. Leave the Configure window open and wait a few more minutes until the button is enabled.
- If the "Update device firmware" button does not appear, double-check that the firmware .hex file is in the correct directory as described in Step 1.
- After clicking the "Update device firmware" button, a window appears listing details about the device and any notes about the update process. Note that the update will take about two to three minutes and will require the ZW network to automatically shut down and restart. Click Cancel if you do not want to update the device at this time. Otherwise, click Continue.
- The firmware is updated in the device; check the progress on the screen during the update. When the firmware is saved to the device, the LED on the receiver will flash red. A message appears in the window at the end when the update is successfully complete.

About Device Firmware:

Applying a newer firmware version than the one already installed on your unit can bring various enhancements, include workarounds for diverse problems encountered by the device, and improve or add newly developed features.

On the other hand, downgrading the firmware version can recover the device’s functionality in the event of a software update either turning up faulty or causing the unit’s overall performance to drop. However, bear in mind that applying an older firmware isn’t recommended and might not always be possible.

When it comes to the update steps, due to the large variety of devices and numerous ways for installing a new firmware, it is recommended that you carefully read and understand the upgrade steps, and consider applying a different firmware only when you have familiarized yourself with the update method.

As the installation process is most of the times quite risky, this step should be taken by users that have the ability to successfully complete the update; regular users may initiate it at their own risk. Moreover, it’s best that this task be performed in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

Therefore, if you consider applying this release, hit the download button, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, and update the device’s firmware. Also make sure you constantly check with our website to ensure that you don’t miss a single new release.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
